Connecting micro-generation system to the electricity network
If you are considering purchasing your own micro-generation system, such as solar panels or electricity storage, carefully read the guidelines below on how to connect your system to the network. Also remember that the installation of a micro-generation system requires the approval of the electricity distribution company.
How to connect
a micro-generation system to the network
Check the connectivity of the equipment
Not all equipment can be connected to the grid in terms of their output. It is important that you ensure the connectivity of the planned generation equipment. Do not order generation equipment before this.
You can check the connectivity of generation equipment for your place of use by logging in to our OmaLiittymä service (currently available in Finnish and Swedish). There, you can see the details of your electricity contract for your current place of use. The equipment supplier can check connectivity on our website.
Check the requirements for building and action permits
Check with your local authority’s building control department to see whether your production system needs a building or action permit.
Order the system
Once you have reviewed the technical requirements and confirmed connectivity, you can order your production system.
Installation and commissioning inspection
Your contractor will install the equipment and carry out a commissioning inspection.
Micro-generation notification to distribution company
Your electricity contractor will make a micro-generation notification in our OmaLiittymä service.
On average, the generation equipment can be connected after 2–3 weeks.
The distribution company checks the general information form
The distribution company checks the information provided on the general information form and the attachments submitted.
Make a generation purchase agreement with your electricity supplier
The distribution company will provide you with a Generation Site Resource Number (GSRN), which you can use to enter into a generation purchase agreement with the electricity supplier of your choice.
Changes needed to the network
The distribution company will make the necessary changes to the network and contact you separately about any meter replacement.
Commissioning the generation equipment
You will receive an electronic confirmation from your distribution company by SMS or email when you are ready to switch on your generation equipment.
