Guidelines for builders
Are you planning to build your own house? On this page, you will find instructions on how to connect your detached house to the electricity network.
Builder – How to connect to the electricity network
Consult with an electrical designer or electrical contractor before you start planning. An electrical contractor approved by TUKES is required to electrify the building.
The electrical contractor will install, among other things, the connection cable to the cable duct and the metering installation on the plot, and will order an electricity meter for you. Check whether the house includes a metering installation or whether you have to buy one separately.
Connection contract
A new electricity connection to a detached house must be ordered at least two months in advance in the zoning area and four months outside the zoning area. With larger connections, it is necessary to prepare for longer delivery times.
For the contract, we need precise information on the location of the site and the size of the main fuse, and a copy of the general layout or, in a rural area, a copy of the environmental map.
An electricity connection gives you electricity for continuous use. For short-term electricity needs for events or construction periods, we offer temporary electricity. A normal electricity connection may be suitable for a detached house project from the start of construction, if you have a metering installation on the outside wall of the house available already during the construction phase. You can order an electricity connection here.
What to consider when connecting to the electricity network
1.
Service line
The connection cable is an underground cable. The builder is responsible for the underground cable on the plot. The builder digs and fills in the cable trench, after which the electrical contractor who connected the metering installation can order the electricity connection.
Before starting excavation work, you should check the verkkoselvitys service to see if there are any electricity cables or district heating pipelines in the area.
2.
Connecting to the network
The meter can be installed and the electricity switched on once the connection contract to the electricity network has been concluded, the main switchboard, underground cable, and earthing conductor have been installed, and the electrical contractor has placed the commissioning order for the site.
The electrical contractor must place the order at least two weeks before electricity is needed.
3.
Electricity sales contract
A contract with a freely chosen electricity supplier is required before electricity supply can start.
The electricity distribution agreement with Vaasan Sähköverkko will also enter into force upon the conclusion of the electricity sales agreement.
